[OPEN] POSTDOCTORAL SCIENTISTS / Haematology/Leukaemia Research

WE ARE HIRING
POSTDOCTORAL SCIENTISTS
Haematology/Leukaemia Research

This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious and accomplished postdoctoral scientist to join the group of Professor George Vassiliou at the Cyprus Cancer Research Institute (CCRI). The role will interact with Professor Vassiliou’s team at the University of Cambridge, UK.

Reports To:

The post holder will report to Professor George Vassiliou (Group Leader) and the Deputy Group Leader Dr Ioannis Dimitriou.

Job Overview

The successful applicant will investigate the molecular pathogenesis of acute myeloid leukaemia and related blood cancers with the aim of identifying novel vulnerabilities and treatments for these diseases.

George Vassiliou is Professor of Haematological Medicine at the University of Cambridge, Cancer Research UK Senior Fellow and Consultant Haematologist at Cambridge University Hospitals. His UK-based group, at the Cambridge Stem Cell Institute (https://www.stemcells.cam.ac.uk/people/pi/vassiliou ), is working at the forefront of research into the preclinical evolution, molecular pathogenesis and genetic vulnerabilities of acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) and related cancers. Their research is strongly translational and aims to develop novel therapies and early detection strategies for myeloid cancers. They seek to understand the cell-autonomous and cell-non-autonomous processes involved in transformation of normal to leukaemic haemopoietic stem cells and to identify genetic vulnerabilities of myeloid malignancies that can be exploited as targets of novel anti-leukaemic therapies.
Professor Vassiliou’s CCRI-based team (International Team Haematology) interact closely, hold joint science meetings, and have reciprocal research placements with the Cambridge team, as required by individual research projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, perform, drive and publish high quality research in the early detection, pathogenesis and treatment of pre-leukaemia and leukaemia.
