Prof. Rami Aqeilan is the Scientific Director of CCRI, leading research on cancer mechanisms. He also heads IMRIC and is a Professor at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

Supporting research work under the Genetics and Omics Cancer Research direction and led by Dr Pavlos Costeas.

The team started work in June 2021 and will receive the total amount of €225,000 in funding from the CCRI for the implementation of two projects: 1. The 1000 Exome Project of the Cypriot Population. Monocyte Mapping of Central Nervous System (CNS) Tumor Infiltrating Immune Cells

Clinical Studies and Clinical Trials
Concentrating in leading the research activities under the Clinical Cancer Research direction and led by Dr Demetris Papamichael.

The team started work in June 2021 and will receive the total amount of €225,000 in funding from the CCRI to carry out the projects: Expansion of the Infrastructure of the Clinical Trials Unit of the Bank of Cyprus Oncology Centre.

Translational Research and Precision Medicine Team
Focusing on delivering work under the Basic and Translational Cancer Research direction and led by Dr Anastasia Constantinidou.


The team started work in June 2021 and will receive the total amount of €225,000 in funding from the CCRI to carry out two projects: 1. Establishment of a Cyprus Sarcoma Reference Centre under the auspices of the Cyprus Cancer Research Institute. 2. Midkine growth factor as a biomarker of breast cancer and a new therapeutic target. Dr Constantinidou also received the 2020 Cyprus Research Award - Young Researcher from the Research and Innovation Foundation and €60,000 in funding for the project: 3. CULTURE/AWARD-YR/0220/0041 - BIOBREAST-1 - Precision Medicine in Breast Cancer: Biomarker Identification.
